This year, the landscaping department of Huangpu District in Shanghai, in collaboration with the street tree maintenance company, formulated a precise pruning plan for the trees along Jianguo West Road (between Ruijin 2nd Road and South Shaanxi Road). While the southern side of the road was trimmed using a telescopic boom lift, the northern side, located near residential buildings, posed a challenge due to high-voltage power lines, which made it impossible for conventional equipment to get close enough for trimming. To address this long-standing “tree-wire dilemma,” the Huangpu District landscaping department introduced a new solution — the spider lift.
Inslift’s spider lifts feature a dual telescopic boom structure, providing it with greater up and over clearance and horizontal outreach. Its excellent flexibility and height adjustment capabilities greatly facilitated the pruning work. During trimming, the platform precisely handled branches close to buildings or those affecting residents, without the need for large-scale tree removal or other destructive measures. This not only protected the health and ecological value of the street trees but also effectively reduced the impact on nearby residents.
This initiative aligns with the city's forestry department’s directive, "Notice on Conducting Citywide Tree Safety Hazard Inspections and Rectification" (Document No. 12 [2024], Shanghai Forestry Office). It strengthened the investigation and rectification of various tree-related risks. Inslift, the manufacturer of the spider lift expressed pride in helping address the challenges that concern local residents and vowed to continue optimizing the equipment’s performance. They aim to support landscaping and municipal departments in tackling more urban maintenance challenges, contributing to the sustainable development of modern cities.
